UWVC Together in Pet Loss is a free support group for our clients who anticipate the loss or have experienced the loss of their animal. In addition to death, animal loss includes one who is lost, stolen, surrendered, or placed in a new home. This group offers an inclusive, safe place to not be alone in grief. The format is open discussion where clients bring their current needs about their grief to the group. UWVC social worker Rhonda Nichols, MSW, LCSW is the group facilitator.
Group guidelines:
- People’s names, identifying information, and what is shared remains confidential. No photos are taken or recording of any session by anyone.
- Everyone will be respectful of each other. Every loss is unique, and every person has their own unique grief experience.
- Everyone who feels comfortable sharing will have an opportunity to do so.
- No one will be pressured to share more than they want to.
- Avoid giving advice.
Although this group can be therapeutic and is facilitated by a licensed mental health clinician, it is not intended to directly support or be a substitute for mental health care.
There are exceptions to confidentiality where the facilitator is mandated to break confidentiality by contacting appropriate resource to protect you or others from harm. These exceptions are: 1) imminent risk of harm to self or others, 2) reported or suspected abuse, neglect, self-neglect or financial exploitation of a child, adult at risk (18-59 years old) or older adult (60 years or older).
The group meets virtually using ZOOM and is considered a telehealth service. The group meets on the first Tuesday and third Wednesday of each month from 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM.
