*NEW 5/30/23 - Cats with dehydration
We are studying Purina Hydra Care™ pouches as a treatment for cats who are dehydrated from recent illness. Cats will need to have a physical exam and lab tests to confirm eligibility.
Cats in multi-pet households will need to be separated for 48 hours to measure consumption of the product.
Cats are not eligible if they are not eating, need to be hospitalized, eat a novel protein diet, are receiving SQ fluids at home, or have diabetes, advanced kidney disease, or heart disease.
If your cat qualifies, we will send you home with Hydra Care™ pouches to offer in addition to regular food and water. You will be given a logbook and question sheet to monitor your cat for 2 days. You will bring your cat back to UW Vet Care after 48 hours for an exam and recheck blood and urine test to see if there is improvement.
You will need to pay for the initial exam and evaluation. The study will pay for the initial lab tests, the Hydra Care™, and the follow up exam and lab tests. For more information, please contact Amy Elbe, CVT, LAT, at 608-890-3484 or clinicalstudies@vetmed.wisc.edu.
