Many people are familiar with allergy shots as a treatment in their own family. This treatment is called “desensitization” or “immunotherapy.” It is a drug-free treatment where extracts of all the things to which a patient is allergic are injected in gradually-increasing amounts. This makes the overactive immune system react less. It’s also possible to achieve this effect using “allergy drops,” a liquid preparation that is squirted into the mouth, instead of giving injections.
