Regular clinic hours are Monday through Friday, and our scheduling staff will assist you in finding an appointment with the right veterinary specialist based on your animal's needs at a time that works for you. Our emergency services for all species are also available 24/7 if your animal has a serious problem that requires immediate medical attention.
The Morrie Waud Large Animal Hospital has the top specialists and treatment options to get your horse back in the show-ring or back on the trail. We know it takes a team to keep an equine athlete performing and competing at its best, and we take a holistic approach to helping ensure that your horse will have the very best quality of life when it is competing. This involves promoting the physiological, medical and surgical needs of equine athletes, as well as supporting the rehabilitation of these animals following an injury or the development of joint or tendon disease.
Horse Sports Medicine Treatments and Therapies
Our board-certified sports medicine veterinary specialists are skilled in the diagnosis of lameness and other performance-related problems. From exercise intolerance and back pain to breathing noises and joint pain, we care for our patients with the most advanced tools and therapies.
- Diagnostic toolsto pinpoint the source of your animal’s issue (including nuclear scintigraphy, digital radiography ultrasonography and dynamic endoscopy)
- Dynamic airway endoscopy
- Electrocardiography(resting and exercising)
- Joint injection
- Sports-related respiratory diseases
- Acupuncture
- Shockwave therapy
- Regenerative medicine (stem cells, PRP, IRAP)
- Surgical procedures
And because horses may experience a wide range of health issues, our racehorse medicine specialists are trained in cardiac and respiratory care.
Equine Sports Medicine Advancements
We are proud to be the first and only veterinary hospital in the Midwest to offer dynamic endoscopy, which allows our experts to evaluate airway movement and function at the most critical time—while your horse is exercising.
We are also the only animal hospital in the Midwest to offer diagnostic needle arthroscopyin the standing horse.
Additionally, we are now home to a standing CT scanner, which eliminates the need for general anesthesia, allows images to be taken “standing under sedation” and enables us to scan both front limbs or hind limbs simultaneously for comparison.
What’s more, since the same equine sports medicine and surgery experts who see and treat your horses in the clinic also dedicate a significant portion of their time to doing research outside of the clinic in the areas of tendon healing, bone remodeling, joint therapies and airway function, your horse’s care will be the most cutting edge of science.
Payment Information
We understand that paying for your animal’s medical needs can be stressful. Your animal deserves the best care, and we have various payment options so your focus can be on getting your animal healthy.
Entrance and Parking for Trailers
After you arrive, please contact one of our staff if they are not immediately present to greet you, so that we may unload your animal from your trailer.
If it is helpful for you to leave your trailer here while your animal is an inpatient, you may use our dedicated parking stalls. Learn more about this option from our staff.
Let’s be sure your horse is on the right track.
Contact us today to talk about concerns you have, discuss injury prevention or set up a pre-purchase examination tailored to your needs. We look forward to helping your horse win all-around.
