An effective physical rehabilitation plan is key to getting your companion back in action after injury or surgery. We believe that the most effective treatment plan includes working with your veterinarian on a comprehensive approach. Upon referral from your primary care veterinarian, our expert team at UW Veterinary Care is ready to help you work through a number of conditions that typically require physical therapy, including:

  • Hip dysplasia
  • Tendonitis
  • Post-op therapy
  • Fibrocartilaginous embolism

  • Cervical or back pain
  • Muscle tone abnormalities
  • Nerve injuries
  • Balance/Vestibular disorders
  • Cerebellar disease
  • Wound healing/degloving injuries
  • Weight loss
  • Cruciate (knee) surgery

Once patients are diagnosed, our specialist is trained to assist in the recovery of neurologic function, mobility and balance through a wide range of therapy options, including:

  • Cold therapy
  • Warm therapy
  • Manual therapy, including massage and joint mobilization
  • Canine massage
  • Neuromuscular electrical stimulation
  • Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation
  • Therapeutic exercise, including an underwater treadmill
  • Gait training
  • Assistive devices for all types of animals, including slings, harnesses and carts

What’s more, our physical rehabilitation specialist will educate you during each session, to be sure that you can continue the rehabilitation and recovery process at home with exercises and therapeutic techniques.
