From April 15 until early August, a City of Madison road construction project will close Walnut St. in both directions.  This is one of the main entrances to the UW campus that has been used by our clients driving to UW Veterinary Care.  We have provided below revised driving directions and a map with alternate routes.  We apologize for any inconvenience this road closure may cause our clients.

From the North (Minneapolis/St. Paul, Eau Claire, Wisconsin Dells)

  • South on I-90/94
  • Exit at 135 A-B onto US-151 South (East Washington Ave.)
  • Follow US-151/East Washington Ave. 4.9 miles
  • Turn right at N. First St.
  • Turn left at E. Johnson St.
  • E. Johnson St. becomes Gorham St.
  • Gorham St. merges into University Ave. near the campus
  • Follow University Ave.
  • Turn right onto N. Charter St.
  • In 0.1 mile, turn left onto Linden Dr.
  • Continue on Linden Dr., and it will become Elm Dr.
  • Turn left onto Observatory Dr.
  • In 0.3 mile, turn left onto Easterday Lane
  • UW Veterinary Care is directly ahead

From the East (Milwaukee)

  • West on I-94
  • I-94 becomes State Highway 30
  • Exit onto US-151/East Washington Ave.
  • Follow US-151/East Washington Ave. 1.5 miles
  • Turn right at N. First St.
  • Turn left at E. Johnson St.
  • E. Johnson St. becomes Gorham St.
  • Gorham St. merges into University Ave. near the campus
  • Follow University Ave.
  • Turn right onto N. Charter St.
  • In 0.1 mile, turn left onto Linden Dr.
  • Continue on Linden Dr., and it will become Elm Dr.
  • Turn left onto Observatory Dr.

From the Southeast (Chicago, Rockford, Janesville, Beloit)

  • North on I-90
  • Take US 12/18 West exit (US 12/18 is also called the Beltline)
  • Travel 8 miles until you reach exit #258 (Dodgeville-Verona Rd./Midvale Blvd.)
  • Turn right (north) on Midvale Blvd.
  • Travel 2.7 miles on Midvale Blvd. until you reach University Ave.
  • Turn right onto University Ave.
  • Travel on University Ave. for 1 mile and stay in the right lane
  • Exit and stay on University Ave. where the road becomes Campus Dr.
  • In 0.1 mile, turn left onto Highland Ave.
  • In 0.3 mile, turn right onto Observatory Dr.
  • At the roundabout traffic circle, continue straight to stay on Observatory Dr.
  • Proceed 0.2 mile and turn right at the stop sign onto Easterday Lane
  • UW Veterinary Care is directly ahead

From the Southwest (Dubuque, Dodgeville, Verona)

  • Hwy 151 north to Madison
  • Go under the Beltline (Hwys 12/14/18/15)
  • Stay left to S. Midvale Blvd.
  • Travel 2.7 miles on Midvale Blvd. until you reach University Ave.
  • Turn right onto University Ave.
  • Travel on University Ave. for 1 mile and stay in the right lane
  • Exit and stay on University Ave. where the road becomes Campus Dr.
  • In 0.1 mile, turn left onto Highland Ave.
  • In 0.3 mile, turn right onto Observatory Dr.
  • At the roundabout traffic circle, continue straight to stay on Observatory Dr.
  • Proceed 0.2 mile and turn right at the stop sign onto Easterday Lane
  • UW Veterinary Care is directly ahead

From the West (Richland Center, Spring Green, Cross Plains)

  • East on US Hwy 14 to Madison
  • Hwy 14 becomes University Ave.
  • After the intersection of University Ave. and Midvale Blvd., proceed for 1 mile and stay in the right lane
  • Exit and stay on University Ave. where the road becomes Campus Dr.
  • In 0.1 mile, turn left onto Highland Ave.
  • In 0.3 mile, turn right onto Observatory Dr.
  • At the roundabout traffic circle, continue straight to stay on Observatory Dr.
  • Proceed 0.2 mile and turn right at the stop sign onto Easterday Lane
  • UW Veterinary Care is directly ahead

Parking at the Small Animal Hospital

The Small Animal Hospital has a dedicated parking lot directly in front of our main entrance.  When you check in at the Reception Desk, you will be given a hang tag for your vehicle.

Special Parking for Tomotherapy and Physical Rehabilitation Services

If you are bringing your pet to our Tomotherapy or Physical Rehabilitation facility, there are reserved parking spaces directly across the street from the entrance of this area of the hospital. The map below will assist you in locating these dedicated parking spaces.

Traveling with a Trailer

If you are traveling to UW Veterinary Care with a trailer, follow these directions for a route that will accommodate your vehicle:

Note:  This route has been modified beginning April 15 due to the closure in both directions for road construction on the Walnut St. entrance onto the campus.

  • From all directions of Madison, it is best to approach the hospital from the south side of Madison from the “Beltline” (Hwys 12/14/18/15)
  • Turn onto Park St.
  • Travel 2.5 miles on Park St. until you reach University Ave.
  • Turn left onto University Ave.
  • The road will split into University Ave. and Campus Dr.
  • Continue straight onto Campus Dr.
  • Take the Highland Ave. exit toward UW and VA Hospitals
  • In 0.3 mile, turn right onto Observatory Dr.
  • At the roundabout traffic circle, continue straight to stay on Observatory Dr.
  • Proceed 0.2 mile and turn right at the stop sign onto Easterday Lane
  • UW Veterinary Care is directly ahead

If you are traveling during our regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 8 am-5 pm), the staff at the Large Animal Hospital Reception Desk will be happy to help guide you to our facility over the phone.

Entrance and Parking for Trailers

After you arrive, please contact one of our staff if they are not immediately present to greet you so that we may unload your animal from your trailer.

If it is helpful for you to leave your trailer here while your animal is an inpatient, you may use our dedicated parking stalls. Learn more about this option from our staff.
