While many normal horses have heart murmurs, some heart defects require further work-up. At the VMTH, echocardiography is performed in unsedated horses and is well tolerated. The cardiac examination can help owners make appropriate decisions about purchase, use of the horse, treatment, monitoring, or prognosis. |

assist while a veterinarian examines a horse's stomach lining with a
flexible endoscope. Gastroscopy is used to examine the esophagus and
stomach for abnormalities, including ulcers, strictures, tumors, or abnormal
growths. An endoscope can also be used to examine upper and lower airways
(horses and cows with pneumonia, chronic cough, or allergies) or to examine the
urogenital tract (bladder, urinary problems).
